Look Inside — Try One Real Lesson (Free Sample)

This is an actual excerpt from Module 1: Dystocia Triage — The Willow Creek Case, one of three full simulation modules in the pack. What you see here is what your students get: the case facts, a real decision point, consequences for every option, and the instructor key.

The setup (from the case facts sheet)

Willow Creek Farm — evening call log Time: 19:40, first week of February. You are on call for Valley View Veterinary Service, a 4-DVM mixed practice. Caller: Dale Ostby, owner. "One of our cows is down in the calving lot. The water bag broke a while back — my son saw it around 5:30 when he fed... Now she's down and straining hard. She's a three-year-old, second calf... I gave her a couple of good pulls with the calf jack but nothing's moving." Weather: −8 °C (18 °F). Distance: 25 minutes from the clinic. Your practice owner is 40 minutes away at another call, reachable by phone.

Decision Point 1 — The phone call (19:40)

A. Talk Dale through continued traction with the calf jack over the phone. B. Tell Dale to leave her alone and assess at morning rounds. C. Load the truck and go now; tell Dale to stop pulling, keep her warm, and check for two feet and a nose — no traction. D. Refer Dale to haul the cow to the emergency hospital 90 minutes away.

Instructor key (that's what the full pack looks like)

C. Remote traction on an undiagnosed dystocia is the most common producer-driven error; the veterinarian's first intervention is to stop uncontrolled traction and put eyes on the animal. B fails the welfare check outright; D is premature without an exam. — plus discussion questions, documentation expectations, and a four-level scoring rubric for the module.

That's one decision point of eight. The full module runs phone triage → field assessment → correction and delivery → calf resuscitation → dam aftercare → client economics, with the instructor key, common student errors, and the assessment rubric.
